• What style is in fashion?
  • What style works best with my face shape and hair type?
  • What products work best with my hair?
You look great when you walk out of the salon…but make sure you can re-produce the style at home on your own.  Ask your stylist for the best home-care tips for your look.  Above all, choose a style that is easy to pull off.  You don't need to spend hours in front of the mirror.  You don't have time for that.

Your stylist will suggest a good product for your hair.  Most likely they will push the products they sell in their salon.  These may be a bit more expensive than what you can find elsewhere, but give them a try.  Purchase the smaller container if you are tight on cash.  You can always experiment with cheaper products later and you should always have the "good stuff" for back up.

Make sure you find a salon that specializes in men's hair.

Some extra tips:

1.  Always rinse your hair after coming out of the pool.  You want to get rid of the harsh sanitizing pool chemicals which can dry out and damage your hair and dry out your scalp.  Ask any sport swimmers and divers what happens to your hair if you don't do this.  Failure to rinse after frequent pool exposure can actually bleach your hair and give it a green tinge.

2.  If you want to tone down or cover up gray hair, don't do it yourself.  You will end up looking like you tried to hard.  Always have your stylist do this for you.  It may cost more, but trust me, you'll be much happier with the results.

3.  The "comb over" never looks good.  In fact, it looks plain ridicules.  If you find yourself with less hair then you'd like, avoid this like the plague.  Try a short close style…or go one step further and complete the look with a clean shaven head.  Some guys pull that off real nicely.

4.  Have your hair trimmed once every 4 weeks.  This is most important for men with short hair.  Frequent trimming keeps a short hair style looking neat and even.

5.  You can be loyal to your stylist, but there is nothing wrong with trying a new stylist every now and then.  They may have a different style suggestion for you.  Who knows, you might find one you like better.

Even though it's hard to find the traditional barber shop with the red, white, and blue spinning pole out front, you can still get a great hair cut and style from a modern salon.  No need to go where your sweetheart gets her hair done.  In fact, avoid the hair salon that only does women's hair.  There's nothing wrong with female stylists…just make sure you find a salon that specializes in men's hair.
